Thought for the week
Simon Peter, next to his Master, is the person most often named in the Gospels. One of the three who were closest to Jesus; always the first to speak without thinking, often rebuked for it, the loudest voice of those who promised to follow Jesus even to death; the man who three times denied knowing him. But sometimes he got it right, and it was he who first openly acknowledged the divinity of Christ. Give glory this day to God who knew where to find, under the weakness and the folly, one of his greatest Apostles. And if we are open to him, he can make something of each one of us.

The Collect for Sunday 29 June
Almighty God, whose blessed apostles Peter and Paul glorified you in their death as in their life: grant that your Church, inspired by their teaching and example, and made one by your Spirit, may ever stand firm upon the one foundation, Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
